Innovative Control Systems’ David Cincera shares his thoughts on their Award Winning Flex™ Outdoor Kiosk!
12 Octubre, 2.009 - Fuente: Innovative Control Systems (ICS)
Often times, the best ideas come from refining accepted methods of doing meaningful, redundant, and necessary tasks. I have always been inspired by Warren Buffet’s focus on investing in daily essentials. Our industry is continuing to progress and mature into a solid business segment supported in a wide variety of excellent applications that include everything from the whimsical to absolutely critical. They reflect the importance that we place on information management and security, bill payment and financial transactions in a public environments, and an exciting vast array of self-service applications unencumbered by old technologies in a rapidly expanding 21st Century.
We have had the pleasure of developing an excellent relationship with Mr. David Cincera the Vice President of Business Development for ICS, Innovative Control Systems. This US based company, located in Pennsylvania, has a deep rooted knowledge and years of experience in the automotive industry and the car care business. ICS received the globally recognized KioskCom Excellence Award for the Best Hardware and Enclosure Design in 2009 for their Flex™ Outdoor Kiosk! If you are not familiar with this prestigious award, it is a highly regarded and hotly contested award earned by top companies and presented at the KioskCom Las Vegas Expo. This Kiosk Application is real world. It is user friendly and convenient and it increases vendor revenue while increasing efficiencies... interested?
Please allow me to introduce Mr. David Cincera. Anyone who meets David instantly can appreciate that this gentleman has passion for his work. As a professional, he allows you to engage with him quickly. Perhaps it is his smile or his confidence? He has that "old school" business ethic that probably can be traced back to his parents. You know what I mean; he demonstrates those qualities that we all wish we had. He makes you feel that you are the most important person in a crowded room and we are very pleased that he is sharing his point of view with us today.
EKN (Robert Porter): "Before we ask any questions, please accept our congratulations on winning the "KioskCom Excellence Award" for 2009. Well done for both you and your team!"
Mr. David Cincera
David: "Thanks, Robert. The award was icing on the cake after more than 1000 customer deployments of our outdoor Kiosk in the car care industry. But the real credit goes to our Product Development Staff, guided by Sales & Marketing feedback, and a superior Installation, Training and Customer Support Team. I’ll be sure to pass along your kind words."
EKN: "I recently saw a local program in Las Vegas highlighting your products and the importance of people using automatic car wash facilities and the positive environmental impact that they have vs. washing a car at home. Tell our readers about how the Flex™ Kiosk is being accepted by the public and those owners that have decided to automate their wash facilities?" David: "It’s not an overstatement to say that our Kiosk products have revolutionized the full service car wash business. They create more choices for the customer, help reduce costs, and speed up service delivery. The typical full service car wash in the 80’s could process 50,000-60,000 cars per year, and was known for long lines and inconsistent performance. Today, processing 120,000 cars per year with the same size facility is commonplace, and the best sites handle 150,000 vehicles or more with equal or lower staff levels."
"How does this happen? Well, it starts with a reproducibly friendly greeting at the Kiosk, a logical and clear menu of services, and instant payment with cash, credit card, gift card or coupon. As an educational tool (about environmental matters, for example), operators have also found the Kiosk to be more effective than people or signs... including promotional discounts on a 2nd vehicle to reinforce the message. Our Kiosk also interfaces with sophisticated control equipment to help queue vehicles from multiple entry points, and deliver the right combination of services for each vehicle via the latest wash equipment. Speed, simplicity, quality service and a user-friendly interface spell success."
EKN: "Everyone knows that in this business it is all about what have you done lately. What are you working on now?" David: "The publicity from our award has generated a number of interesting new applications for our outdoor, full payment media Kiosk. Municipal bill payment is one application that we’re aggressively pursuing, which involves collecting parking citation payments, tax payments and other pay-for-service public offerings."
"The driving force behind automated municipal bill paying is cost reduction, which eliminates the traditional staffed walk-in service counter. At the same time, the consumer wants extended hours of operation, convenient collection points and a user-friendly interface that accepts cash, checks, credit cards and vouchers. ICS has joined forces with Pay-Ease, a market leader in the field of electronic financial processing and consumer bill payment collections. Together, we bring proven hardware and software technology to this application, and are working with a number of large municipalities that see an outdoor terminal as the most cost-effective option."
EKN: "You are correct in teaming with a company like Pay-Ease that has the experience and core competency to provide first class financial services in a wide range of applications. We spoke with Dean Scaros, President of Pay-Ease, and here is what he told us about the project:"
Dean:: "Pay-Ease has been providing bill payment processing on kiosk platforms since 2002 and in 2008 we were proud to partner up with ICS, a leader in their industry. With our combined business experience and unique product capabilities, we were able to create an exceptionally innovative product."
"We have had an outstanding response to adding an outdoor kiosk to our line-up and have already begun processing orders. We believe the outdoor kiosk is the answer to making bill payments convenient and widely accessible and we’re excited to introduce this revolutionary kiosk at the KioskCom Expo in November."
David: "We encourage visitors to the upcoming KioskCom Self-Service Expo in NYC to drop by the Pay-Ease booth and learn more about outdoor bill payment. -. At the ICS booth, we’ll feature an RFID vehicle tracking system, which has applicability to many outdoor drive-through applications such as coffee shops, fast food, and parking. Come talk to us!"

EKN: "Thank you Dean and David. We also had an opportunity to speak with Lawrence Dvorchik about the upcoming East Coast Expo." Lawrence: "The KioskCom Self Service Expo and The Digital Signage Show allow us to focus on educating people who want to learn more about these technologies. Our commitment is to education and allowing people to get up close to experience new innovative products. Our New York Expo has been growing each year and we are looking forward to another great event this year!"
KioskCom Self Service Expo and The Digital Signage Show
EKN: "There is a nice buzz going on about the return of strong, or at least improving, economic conditions. We agree and are looking forward to continuing improvements through outstanding applications of technology with high standards. We firmly believe that quality is critically important in the success and adoption of Self-Service in daily life. It is clear that ICS is focused on well grounded public use kiosks." David: "Our approach to Kiosk deployment grows out of the many success stories of customers using our systems. Although labor saving is often the initial driver for considering a Kiosk, the real value to a business is, in our view, revenue growth. When done right, we know that automated systems can improve the customer experience in many dimensions, speed, more choices, quality of service and price. Satisfied customers come back, and bring their friends."
But doing it "right" means having reliable hardware with sophisticated audio/video capabilities, full payment media and a service support network to keep everything running smoothly. It means having the right software that attracts, educates and motivates the user and provides more choice and individualized services. It means doing all the above quickly, and then seamlessly delivering products and services that may include human interactions. Stumbling anywhere along the way can undermine the best parts of the order-to-delivery process. We at ICS believe that our holistic approach is essential to moving beyond narrow cost savings to maximizing customer value and driving profitable business growth."
EKN: "We would like to thank David Cincera and Dean Scaros for sharing their insights with us and providing their thoughts on how to best incorporate RFID Technologies and Self Service to impact customer’s bottom line. In a time when many of are discussing better ways of using best practices and how to position our products to potential clients, ICS is expanding tested products along with experience to lead the way in Kiosk usage. Remember to visit ICS and Pay-Ease at KioskCom New York."
