COMUNICADOS DE PRENSA

¡Insights and Predictions on Doing Business in 2009!

05 Enero, 2.009 - Fuente: Robert Porter, Co-CEO - Euro Kiosks Network

We would like to stop during these very busy times to thank you for your ongoing interest and support of EKN. We would also like to provide a few statements about the Kiosk and Self-Service Industries.

This is the first time we have offered our own thoughts and predictions for the New Year; however we believe that this year brings new challenges and will require more support, diversification, and flexibility. Success will come from new innovations and will most likely come to the nimble and the quick.

Insights and Predictions on Doing Business in 2009 We are proud of our past accomplishments in International Business and have maintained excellent relationships. Our many experiences have aided us in meeting new challenges but more than that, we have learned and developed
knowledge skills and abilities that provide a base to approach the new challenges 2009 and beyond will present. We will be asked to perform at a higher level of efficiency that ever before. By "we" I mean all of us. There is no distinction that sets us apart from one another.

When we look to left and the right of us we see people in exactly the same situation. Many of us are afraid of what the future may bring. We have seen large companies suffer which shakes our confidence in established ways of doing business. Last week I was discussing how the Kiosk Industry is developing and the Value Chain is evolving. Many people across a wide variety of industries are losing their jobs. It does not matter if they are CEO's or the latest entry level hire in the company. We need to ask ourselves a question as we approach 2009. Am I providing enough value to our customer and in return adding to the value of our company and that means the "bottom line?" If you are not innovating, you are rusting. In my many years at FedEx, we referred to these rusting people as simply being "office furniture." There is no time to waste now. We must be more flexible, more committed, and most of all more innovative than ever.

Providing self-service really means managing information and content and delivering that data through a unique medium. That may be an integration of unique peripherals that meet the needs of the user. At one critical point, there has to be a human machine interface. That moment can either be passive or active. The closer it is to the moment of decision by the viewer, the more effective the integration becomes. Insights and Predictions on Doing Business in 2009

We used to think that by randomly hitting people with information would perhaps plant a seed of thought about a product or even how they would feel about an issue. Our responsibility, both yours and mine, is to deliver a specific message to a specific user group. Learning how to enhance the experience exponentially while reducing cost is the task. Many things happen when we feel threatened or afraid. We all react differently, depending on our personality style, yet we all react. We lash out and become angry or we become introspective. Many of us begin to discuss why this is happening to us or accuse others of placing the blame. Some of us lament for hours about how unfair it all is. We will do anything to stray from the Task.

Insights and Predictions on Doing Business in 2009 In January, we will see new innovations at CES. Wonderful new applications of technology that come from forward thinkers. The reality is many of the greatest ideas are there now. We simply need to discover them. This is not a time of
doom. This is a time of renaissance. We are living through a time of great change in technology and human growth. We are creating the future, you and I. This new era demands focus.

In order to participate, you must have the ability to stay in tune. The musician is provided an instrument at the completion of an incredible process. It is a journey that begins in the eye of the makers as they procure the perfect materials to create a unique instrument. Through hours of focused attention they pour their creative talents into the building and balancing of an instrument that produces a unique resonating sound when placed in the hands and heart of an expert. You and I are part of the process. If we are participating as part of a large corporation or as an entrepreneur stepping off of the secure ledges for the very first time, we must be focused on what is critically important.

This message could go on for many pages and we will gladly speak with you if you require more time. The challenges are clear. The wolf is on the door step and there is no place to hide. You have a few moments right now to decide the direction you will take. In Sales we say, "The contract goes to the person that asks the best questions." This is more than a contract, my friend. As you stand at the gate to 2009, you alone have the ability, no responsibility, to determine several key items for your success. Look around and be honest with yourself. If what you see satisfies you, we wish you well in the New Year.

However, if you look around and see an uncertain future, you must act now. You must commit to what you are doing right now and become engaged. If you are simply participating, you may be pruned. That is a harsh thought I know but, in order to ensure the health of the plant isn't it the responsibility of the caretaker to remove the part of the plant that is not feeding the rest or the part that is not providing support and strength? So, please listen to what the question is again. Are you adding value to those around you? If you jot down what your place is in the value chain, and by that I mean human capital, you may learn about how others perceive you. You can simply say " Yeah right, like that *#*! is important to me!"

We have taken this time to speak directly to you about how important this introspective moment is because we firmly believe that without a real push, you might not make it. There is not guarantee in our world in 2009. Success will go to the agile. The strong will have strength and wisdom. They will have a trained steadiness that will allow them to communicate their vision. You know what I mean. They are the people around you that are prepared through solid dedicated performance. Jim Barksdale is a great man that can always provide clarity to any situation. He said it best, I think, when he said "The Main Thing, is to make The Main Thing, The Main Thing!"

Insights and Predictions on Doing Business in 2009 So here are a couple of predictions for the New Year that is ahead of us.
The Kiosk Industry will maintain its present size with modest growth in Healthcare, and Retail. Preventative Healthcare is seen as a growth area. Most of the Retail growth will be in Europe with continued Information and Transportation Applications growth in Asia. There will be two large players entering the Global Market Space which will continue to drive innovation and flexibility. Insights and Predictions on Doing Business in 2009

Out-sourcing and cross functional project development will become more prevalent as a continued blending of technologies encourage use of hand held devices for gaming and customer service become more common place. Utilizing motion activated in the shelve applications will be utilized to continue the trend towards smaller footprint personalized content for products and ad space.

Insights and Predictions on Doing Business in 2009 Digital Signage will continue to surge and become more customers driven with a focus on interactivity. New technologies such as SAIL (Self Aligned Imprint Lithography) Continued focus on faster delivery of rich media content and simplified media sharing.

RFID will be used more for specific applications, such as directional shopping and security. This may be a good area for diversification as technologies continue to grow with cross over opportunities.

Biometrics will continue to develop with more kiosk featuring basic applications for access secure data. Higher security applications will begin using palm and vein scanning technologies to replace iris and thumb scanners. Security for schools will be a greater focus with interactive learning leading the way for many education applications. The key to placement will be a reduction in development cost to meet tight budgets but there is room in education and municipal uses. Insights and Predictions on Doing Business in 2009

Human Resource Interactive applications will continue to grow as well a deeper use of technology to support corporate communications and employee training. Employee retention will become a focus as economic restraints freeze hiring in 2009.

So, as we approach this new and challenging time, I would remind you one more time, it is “we,” you and I, that are accepting this responsibility to take on this new experience which may appear to be too high to scale or too swift to cross. Do not wait. The future will go to the nimble and the quick.

We wish a Happy New Year to you all and great success for 2009!
