A Q & A with Mr. Curt Thornton, CEO of Provision Interactive

When Provision became a Member Company of EKN, we knew that Curt Thornton had a unique perspective on the Retail Digital Signage and Kiosk Industries. In May 2007, CEO America, Inc., with exclusive US licensee of CREDITZ(R) Digital Currency, announced that Provision Interactive Technologies, Inc. (Provision) had selected CREDITZ for integration into all Provision 3DEO Reward Kiosks in the US.


  EKN: "We recently heard about Provision receiving an invitation to participate in the The Store of the Future is built within the 97th Annual Convention & Expo of the NRF (National Retail Federation), also known as “X-08” which will be held January 14-15, at the Javits Convention Center in New York City. Curt, how large is the area dedicated to future shopping technologies and what can attendees expect to see and learn about Provision?"
Curt: "The X08 pavilion is approximately 6000 square feet. Provision will have a total of three products inside X08. We’ll be showcasing two of our 40 inch displays on the outside walls of the area, where our 3D holographic images will be projected out over 3 feet into space. We will be demonstrating several types of holographic content; from simple floating logo’s of a company’s brand, to more traditional 3D animation of a company’s product."

"One of the distinguishing facets of Provision’s 3D holographic technology is the ability to utilize traditional 2D digital content, like TV commercials. We have taken some great 2D content of some extreme sports shots, and repurposed it very cost effectively for our clients – showing them that they do not require expensive re-rendering and conversion costs to get 2D content on 3D platform. We can take it and use it ''as is'' – still looking great as a 3D holographic dynamic streaming image."

"Our third display will showcase our 17 inch 3D holographic screen, which is currently being used on several kiosk and ATM applications as a “topper.” Again, to have a new experience for consumers, they will see something new that they have never seen before at this self service terminal. We have got a very simple interactive application where the consumer will be able to “touch” the floating 3D image (by waving your hand through it), which tells the image and the consumer that you’d like more information on that particular advertisement. Instantly, you’ll receive a coupon or receipt for more information on that product or service that you saw as a 3D holographic ad. The applications are endless in retail stores worldwide."


EKN: "Can interested attendees find you in any other location on the Floor?"
Curt: "Yes, in addition to the X08 pavillion, Provision will be located on the show floor, in booth #2566, where you will be able to see two new Provision kiosks. Integrating the HL17 display, Provision will be launching its Mini-3DEO Rewards Center kiosk targeted to the grocery store market channel, and its Google kiosk – a stand alone merchandiser."

EKN: "Tell us a bit about the 3DEO Kiosk and the real quality of your patented Holo™ 3D floating image display inside the “3DEO Rewards Center?"
Curt: "The 3DEO Rewards Center kiosk is designed to be a destination spot at the entrance of a grocery store. As the key component to ‘entrance marketing’, the 3DEO is going to provide entertainment, fun, and information (to a consumer) in a way that they’ve never experienced. 3D holographic images floating in space 3 feet in front of the screen stops people, draws them in, and engages them."
 
  "Our 3D holographic images are very high resolution, bright, and are streaming images, products, brands – ultimately to tell a story to the consumer in just a few moments. That’s the power of the 3DEO Rewards Center. We are “changing the way people see the world”. And while the consumer has spent just a few moments with the 3DEO Rewards Center, we’re going to ‘reward them’ by allowing them to spend just a few more moments at the touch screen – where they’ve been empowered to select a promotion, coupon, sweepstake – of their own choice."

"The consumer will be able to scroll through various screens to see what coupons, promotions, sweepstakes or rewards that they want; specifically, we’ve given the power of choice back in the hands of the consumer. The consumers want to be given valuable coupons, rewards or promotions, that they want, not what some promotional agency wants to give them to force them to try to switch brands. Consumers like that. And ultimately, what the 3DEO Rewards Center is for everyone, is simply this – “Promotions You Experience.”

  EKN: "Wow that is excellent! We have never seen that type of attention getting Digital Signage. What have you encountered when customers actually experience this for the first time?"
Curt: "As a new “disruptive” display technology HoloVision™ is currently being utilized to market and advertise products and brands in retail environments, breaking through the “clutter” of traditional in-store media. Provision is offering HoloVision™ to retailers and advertisers in several market channels worldwide, where record-breaking measured results include: 91% of consumers polled were motivated or highly motivated to order the product as a result of seeing it in 3D."

EKN: "We know you are getting ready for the NRF BIG Show and appreciate your time in sharing your insights with our readers. Before you go, what are your expectations for next week?"
Curt: "We believe that Provision, and ultimately our technology platform, is probably the best kept secret in retail. As we transition ourselves to a media based company, we want to share our worldwide successes with all the retailers, manufacturers and advertisers; that they’ve got a choice when thinking about the future of their companies. It does not have to be the same old plasma screen or LCD screen hanging in the store or integrated into some form of kiosk or self-service terminal. We want people to know that the future is here NOW, and they can have it. Science Fiction, or what people believed to be science fiction, is now being demonstrated by Provision."
