PRESS RELEASE

KioskCom Europe 2007 Overview Report!

26 November, 2007 -  The KioskCom Europe Expo, 7-8 November 2007, promised to be an exciting gathering of many of the Industries Leaders. There were many familiar companies present, among them many of EKN’s finest! One of the first comments I heard was that the Olympia Venue was very full. I quickly reviewed the Show Guide and saw the names of EKN Member Companies from Japan, China, Italy, France, Norway, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Germany, The United States, and yes, many from the UK and mentioned that this is a global gathering and not just a localized Show.

KioskCom Europe Self Service Expo, 7-8 November, 2007

We recently reported on the great success of the KioskCom’s New York City Expo and everyone understood that the bar had been elevated. There was anticipation after last years inaugural Europe show was a big success, with a significant growth expected in both attendees and exhibitors. The Show Team delivered!
  Phil Hunter, KioskCom Limited
     Phil Hunter
KioskCom Limited is led by a professional, passionate and likeable individual, Phil Hunter, who is an impressive leader due his to ‘mastery of the details.’ His Team has a commitment to excellence that allows the Exhibitors to focus on their customers.

We caught up with Phil after the excitement and activities of the Expo had settled down to reflect on this year’s event, share his perspectives, and explore what’s next. We will also be speaking with several of the exhibitors from the Show to get their views and to hear about some of their successes!

EKN: "Phil, thank you for taking a few moments to share you insights into the KioskCom Europe Expo. We know you are busy wrapping up after the show. Before we begin, please accept our sincere praise for a job well done. Olympia was truly excellent."
Phil: "Yes, it has gone very well indeed! This is our second year so it was important to follow up the success of last year with another strong show and we have definitely accomplished that goal.

Last year we exceeded expectations by delivering many more attendees than we were expecting – with that kind of achievement already in the bag the bar was raised for this year, by quite a bit. But we have grown the show, we have quite a few more exhibitors and some very big names on the floor plan, and we have put a lot of money, time and effort into marketing the event – and it has all paid off.

The Show floor was busy and had a great buzz about it, stands were packed, Exhibitors were busy, the free seminars programmed went down really well with many sessions being standing room only and our Superstar Deployment Feature was a real draw for the buyers to see some of the most deployed kiosks and self service units out there today."

KioskCom's Europe Expo was held on 7-8 November, 2007

EKN: "As you say, the Expo had good growth this year. Could you please fill us in on some of the stats?"
Phil: "We have rough figures back already but it is important to note that our attendance figures are subject to ABC Audit. Our figures are independently audited by the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) which is the primary internationally recognised Exhibition and Magazine auditing company. Audited figures are the only sure way of knowing that you are getting what you pay for, and all legitimate Publishers and Exhibitions Organisers audit their attendance figures.

But to give you a quick taste, here are some of the headline figures:
  • 80 Exhibiting Companies
  • 1,303 attendees
  • 33% increase in International Attendees
  • 40% increase in countries attending
  • 23% increase in Attendees who make the final decision
  • 80% increase in European wide, multi-store retailers
  • 39% increase in Large Companies (over 1,000 employees)
  • Retail still remains the largest End User Sector, however we saw some big growths in Hotel, Hospitality & Catering, Banking & Finance and Local/Central Government sectors
We have also re-booked 71% of this year’s floor space into the 2008 show already, which is one of the greatest testaments as to how well the event actually worked for the exhibitors. So, as you can see, the show was a big success with growth on just about every key level."

EKN: "The Focus was really on getting qualified buyers into the Show this year. May we ask you to explain your approach to this critical element of Expo Planning?"
Phil: "Let me hand this part over to our Marketing Manager Katie Higgins who organised and executed all the marketing for the show."

Katie: "We really had three primary missions for the marketing campaign this year:
  1. To deliver more attendees year on year
  2. To increase both our European and Global Audience
  3. To focus on specific sectors we thought had more growth potential

After last years’ success we found that more and more End User focused media partners wanted to work with us. They saw the potential from last years’ show in getting involved, and from what was being shown on the show floor, they saw the benefits to their readers.

We increased the number of media partners, and therefore our marketing reach; we increased our spend on marketing; we increased our volume of output, both domestically and internationally; and overlaid all of that with precision targeting for certain specific sectors.
Katie Higgins, Marketing Manager, KioskCom Limited

  The results speak for themselves:
  • Overall attendance grew from just over 1,000 last year to just over 1,300 this year
  • Our international attendance grew by 33%
  • We brought visitors from 40% more countries this year
  • We saw 24% more attendees from Western Europe
  • And the specific sectors we targeted all saw some amazing growths as well, including:
    • Retail which remained out biggest area, out delivering the next nearest area by almost twice as many attendees
    • Hotels, Hospitality and Catering which saw a 150% growth in attendees
    • Banking, Insurance and Finance which saw a 50% growth in attendees
    • Local / Central Government (both from the UK and Internationally) which saw a 19% growth in attendees
Overall the feedback from the exhibitors has been fantastic, so the figures reflect very well how successful our exhibitors felt it has gone. Now onto next year which we already have plans to make bigger and busier, and deliver even more qualified buyers."

EKN: "We spoke with Andrew Osbourne, Retail Market Development for MEI , based in Genčve Switzerland, who said: "As exhibitors in the original KioskCom London, and long time supporters of the Global KioskCom events, MEI were delighted to see the event grow substantially both in terms of size, and traffic this year. Our booth was once again buzzing, especially on the first day, and we were particularly pleased with the quality of attendees - a worthwhile investment."   MEI

EKN: "Christoph Niehus, Managing Director for Provisio Software Engineering out of Muenster Germany, commented at KioskCom Europe: "It has been a pleasure as always to meet all the colleagues from the kiosk industry here in London."
Provisio Software Engineering
EKN: "You know that our focus is always on continuous improvement. Your team executed beautifully this year. Their preparation and attention to details was evident throughout the show. Tell us what you learned this year and what your vision is for 2008?"
Phil: "I think we have raised the bar yet again so we need to be prepared to deliver on year three – and having just come away from the show we are buzzing with ideas and feedback as to how to achieve that.

We have already grown the floor plan based on the level of rebookings and companies who have already approached us about getting involved next year.

We have seen some of our marketing planning really paying off in terms of focusing on specific areas to grow, so for next year we will be increasing this focus, while growing our spend, volume and coverage."

"And we had some great success with both the educational programme, much of which was standing room only, and our SuperStar Deployment feature which was very well attended, so we will be developing both of them."

"We already have our dates, 1st - 2nd October 2008, it will take place in Olympia, London again and I can’t wait to get back into the planning and building to bring another great show out for next year.

I’ll see you there, if not before. To get involved with the show for 2008, or to get a more detailed breakdown of the figures from this year, please contact Phil Hunter at +44 (0) 1252 727 774 or phunter@kioskcomeurope.co.uk ."
