  "A Q & A with Kei Shiga from Nippon Primex Inc."

28 June, 2006 -  EKN recently interviewed Kei Shiga of Nippon Primex Inc., located in Japan. He shared his thoughts and impressions about today's global kiosk market and its future with today's technologies. Here's what he had to say . . .

  EKN: "Why have you and your UK distributor decided to exhibit at KioskCom Europe, the premier European Event for the Automated Self Service market?"
Kei: "We exhibit at KioskCom and other exhibitions in the U.S.A.. These exhibitions are the place for us to not only to promote or introduce our printers into the Kiosk market, but to also explore the potential market demands and new applications for the mini-printer market."

"In addition, these exhibitions offer us a wonderful opportunity to acquaint us with the trends of "local markets." As a direct result of our successful experiences with KioskCom U.S.A., we made the decision to exhibit at KioskCom Europe with our local distributor in order to globally expand our product line."


EKN: "How does Nippon Primex measure success in a Show such as KioskCom Europe?"
Kei: "The first consideration is the number and the variety of exhibitors. If there are many exhibitors from different self service industries and countries, it leads to a large number of attendees. This provides a diverse audience and naturally includes more potential customers for us."

"The second success factor is how our printer products are received by the attendee delegates. Our goal is to have the opportunity to interact face to face with our potential customers, and of course, how to turn the personal interaction into to a sale of our products."


EKN: "Nippon Primex is a major player in the world-wide kiosk market. Market research shows the market is growing by double digits in every area. Do you see this growth trend as being a sign of an even brighter future?"
Kei: "Yes, this growth trend will lead to a very bright future for kiosk industry. The number of self-service units are increasing quickly, and the market is expanding to not only developed countries, but also NICs or NIEs. These trends will grow the demands for module printers."

EKN: "The kiosking industry is more mature and the OEM's are more technologically qualified than a few years ago. Does this help Nippon Primex in your dealings in this sector?"
Kei: "Nippon Primex has been a specialized company for OEM products. Our engine of growth is through our accumulated skills and knowledge about OEM experiences. In addition, such our experiences have grown with the kiosking industry as a whole. So, the requirement of technologically qualified OEMs and an educated end user of our products are very good news for us!"

EKN: "Kei, let me ask you the million dollar question. What do kiosk manufacturers prefer: lower prices and lesser quality or paying a premium price for more reliable printers? What enhancements do you foresee to ensure kiosk printers greater uptime?"
Kei: "In our technology, we provide a wide selection of printers. We offer lower prices for a unit that meets the need of the customer that are very good or fit a unique quality that is required for the printers. The key is to understand what the customer "really" needs!"

"Our experience has shown us that it is critical to produce a highly reliable printer. While this type may cost more at the time of purchase, the cost must be applied to performance. I know the better the reliability of the printer, the more it will lead to increased uptimes of kiosk printer applications in the future and that leads to a ''very'' satisfied customer."


EKN: "EKN is the Industry Sponsor for KioskCom Europe and Nippon Primex has been a member of the Euro Kiosks Network for many years now. How do you see the upsides of our on-going working relationship?"
Kei: "I see EKN's website as a place to hookup with kiosk peripherals. By that I mean, if a potential customer comes to EKN in search of a specialized item they need for their kiosk project, they can find many suppliers. Because of the direct way EKN allows people to find information, it is much easier for manufacturers or buyers to look up products that they need."
