PRESS RELEASE
A Q & A with Phil Hunter on KioskCom Europe 2006!
22 May, 2006 -
No doubt you have already heard of the new trade expo taking place in London called KioskCom Europe. We recently spoke with Event Director Phil Hunter to try and give you a better understanding of what the event is all about and what Phil is trying to achieve.
EKN: "Why have you and your company decided to launch a European Event for the Automated Self Service market?" Phil: "We have worked very successfully with the owners of KioskCom in the US on other events. When they told us about their plans for KioskCom and asked us if we'd like to get involved in Europe, we were keen to participate."
"The market in Europe grew rapidly in the early years - mainly through the growth of the ATM. Although the US market has powered ahead in recent years, the market projections we've seen for Europe look very encouraging. Also, everywhere I look in the UK there are Kiosk applications - so I'm confident that this market is ready to expand rapidly."
EKN: "What kind of reaction have you had so far?" Phil: "We've been surprised - but extremely pleased - at the reaction. We went to Las Vegas with some sales collateral and a floor plan with a view to testing whether the market was ready for a European show. We left with 8 contracts and 15 options - that's nearly 40% of the exhibition floor space! Plus, of course we got the endorsement of Euro Kiosk Network which has proved invaluable."
"Last week we were delighted to contract Slabb as Platinum Sponsor and the momentum in the UK and Europe is building very well."
"All of this activity builds a lot of attention from the media so we are finding more media players who want to get involved in the visitor marketing for the event."
EKN: "Why have you chosen London for the event?" Phil: "The UK offers quite a few major advantages. It is often the European Head Office for many multi national companies and, of course, everyone speaks the international business language - English. So, were expecting to deliver between 20% and 30% of visitors from outside the UK; but we're confident that we will be delivering quite a few visitors who are based in the UK but with European responsibilities."
EKN: "Getting visitors is going to be key. How do you intend to do this and what type of attendee are you expecting?" Phil: "Again, we're being realistic in our expectations. We expect to deliver around 700 visitors to our first event in November. Getting a broad mix of media partners is the only way to deliver these visitors - from critical markets like Retail, Hotels and Catering, IT, Travel and Financial Services. We're already well down the path of securing these media partners. To date we've built a marketing programme which will deliver nearly 700,000 marketing impacts - and there's much more to come!"
"Based on the feedback we got from KioskCom in Las Vegas, we're building an industry event - with end users as well as Integrators and VARS. Most exhibitors are looking for end users but quite a few are also looking for partners in order to support their European operation."
EKN: "Will you be providing much educational content at the show?" Phil: "Education is absolutely critical to the success of the event. In Europe you must offer free education as well as higher level strategic content that people will pay for."
"On the exhibition floor we are building a seminar theatre with full Audio Visual suite where exhibitors can present scenarios where kiosks can be successfully deployed. We've used these theatres in other exhibitions and they are extremely popular."
"To attract end users, we're introducing a "Kiosk Test Drive" area where visitors can get hands on experience of using Kiosks in different applications - so its gets interaction going and makes the visitor experience the benefits of using kiosks."
EKN: "And what of the future for KioskCom Europe?" Phil: "There is no doubt that Europe is going to be a huge market for the Kiosk Industry. It's growing quickly and some of the biggest companies are announcing major deployments almost every week (like Tesco, Shell, Boots, KLM, BA etc)."
"We're being very realistic about our first event - around 50 exhibitors and 700 visitors. However, we see major growth in this market so we're here for the long run. In 5 years I would expect KioskCom Europe to be as big as KioskCom Las Vegas and maybe even bigger."
