PRESS RELEASE
Penny+Giles develops Small Foot Print 25mm Vandal Resistant Trackerball!
25 June, 2003 -
As the Public Access and Kiosk market matures, and with system providers and developers finding
even more new and exciting ways to allow the General Public to access Information Technology
in the street, the demands and requirements of the system interface become even more
critical. With this in mind, Penny and Giles (Traxsys) have developed a small footprint version
of their already class leading Vandal Resistant Track ball.
This new unit was developed originally for use in ATM machines where the space envelope is
critical and has to fit snugly between the keyboard and encoded PIN pad.
The requirement for this type of application requires a high level of ESD protection and
anti-tamper functionality to ensure system security cannot be bypassed.
The unit uses a 1” high-grade stainless steel ball. Protection against ingress of liquid and
dirt is provided by our unique flexible seal, allowing a true IP65 rating to be achieved when
the ball is static, this seal is in-turn protected from abuse by a high impact stainless steel
shroud.
Should a direct attack occur to the front face of the unit impacts of up to 10 Joules
will be transferred through the ball and into a metal support bar ensuring shafts and bearings
avoid excessive loads. Apart from all this ruggedness, it looks pretty good too!
So, wherever you have a requirement for a quality precision cursor control in the most
demanding of environments, look no further than Traxsys.
