NeoProducts Completes Delivery of 21st Century Kiosks
for Hong Kong Government's Digital 21 IT Strategy!

14 February, 2002 -  NeoProducts, the world's leading supplier of advanced technology kiosks to government, has recently completed delivery of more than 100 purpose-built Electronic Service Delivery (ESD) kiosks for the Hong Kong Government. The kiosks, installed in many public places throughout Hong Kong such as MTR stations, supermarkets and shopping malls, provide easy access to government services and form a central segment of the HK government's Digital 21 Information Technology Strategy.

The NeoProducts specially designed Wave kiosks have an ultra-modern "cyber" look that is consistent with the desires of the HK Government to promote the services as "state-of-the-art." Each kiosk features a wide range of peripheral components including scanners, up to four different printers, magnetic and smart card readers, touch monitor, EFT PIN keypad and Chinese keyboard. The overall brief to make the units as small as possible resulted in a narrow kiosk footprint that was ideal for Hong Kong's stratospherically expensive real estate conditions.

Located throughout Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories, ESD kiosks are connected to the Internet and citizens can access more than 70 public services as well as a wide range of personal services from the one place. The kiosks are designed with ease-of-use and user-friendliness in mind featuring a touchscreen interface. This makes them easy to operate even for people who are not computer-literate.

The NeoProducts' kiosks help the Hong Kong Government in meeting its ESD scheme objectives in many ways. These include transforming the way government business is conducted by providing a one-stop access point to government services, provision of round-the-clock service delivery, improving customer service, widening public access and reducing queuing at offices, reducing the cost of provision of services and responding to new demands in information dissemination and encouraging the community to accept electronic commerce as a regular part of their daily lives.

Presented in September by the Mayor of Stockholm, Mr. Carl Cederschiold, Hong Kong has received the 2001 Stockholm Challenge Award for Public Services and Democracy.

With over 740 projects from 90 countries competing for one of 14 awards under seven categories, namely Public Services and Democracy, Culture and Entertainment, Health and Quality of Life, Education, New Economy, Environment, and Global Village, this is an exceptional recognition of the public benefit being realised through the ESD initiative. The Mayor of Stockholm said he hoped that in 10 years time, this award would become the "Nobel Prize" for information society development.
